Dealing With Back Pain During Pregnancy

By Clark Tomlin

When you are first pregnant you experience a host of joys but your body also experiences a vast amount of change and physical issues. More than half of women will have some sort of lower back pain in the first trimester. It is important that you figure out why you have this if it is part of your problems so that you can deal with it.

The growing baby and the expanding uterus conspire to relocate your center of gravity. As you become heavier in front, your center of mass shifts forward. Hormonal changes can also contribute to low back pain. Relaxing is essential for softening the pelvic bones and allowing for a natural and effective labor. However, these necessary changes can result in backaches.

You are no doubt aware that you can not take most pain killers at this time of your life because you can not be sure how they will affect the baby's growth. That is why you want to ease your pain but you want to find a natural way to do it, and this is what we are going to help you with in this article.

The first line of defense is to stand up straight. A strong and upright posture early in pregnancy will protect you as the baby grows -and the pain might otherwise worsen.

You can also dress to prevent or reduce pain. High heels and tight jeans need to be put away. Your feet in particular need to be protected; choose comfortable and protective shoes. You need not worry that you are compromising personal style. Maternity clothes have come a long way. There are many that are simultaneously cute and accommodating.

Watch how you do those everyday activities, too. Lifting always requires care, but especially now. Use your knees and bend them as you pick up a package or even your other little child. Yes, you may have many things to do but this is the time to ask for help and to take very good care of yourself.

Sleep on the sides and bending knees together will help in relieving the pain. Do not sleep face up. Pillows made especially for pregnant women are available, which can be used by placing between the legs when you sleep on your sides .

Stay active. You do not have to stop exercising because you are pregnant but you do have to be discerning. It is probably not time to jog, but long walks are great. Find a class or a DVD made especially for pregnant women. When you feel that the pain is too difficult to allow you to do this, it is time to seek out help that a physician can offer you because there are ways to minimize this.
